JACKSONVILLE, ILL. – Trine's volleyball team finished off competition at Illinois College's tournament with a pair of wins.
In the Thunder's first game they defeated host school Illinois College in straight sets (25-23, 25-16, 25-20). Freshman Emma Gaff led the team with 11 kills in the match and added 16 digs to the effort as well. Juniors Shannon Scott and Morgan Harris added five and six kills respectively along with three block assists apiece.
Trine would finish tournament competition with a five set win against Fontbonne (Mo.) University. Trine came out strong in the match winning the first two sets 25-21 and 25-10. Fontbonne would respond with two wins beating the Thunder 19-25 and 23-25. But Trine completed the match victory with a 15-9 win in the final set. Once again Gaff lead the team in kills with 18 in the match. Fellow freshman Sarah Toles was also a key contributor adding nine kills, one solo block and six block assists.
The two wins bring Trine's overall record to 3-1. They will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday, September 6 at 6:30 p.m. in this season's home and conference opener against Hope College.
