ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Trine University women's tennis team fell short as Wittenberg University left town with a victory by the score of 5-2.
The Thunder fell behind early as they took just one match during the doubles portion of the competition. Freshmen Ashley Spirrison (Fishers, Ind. / Hamilton Southeastern) and Tatum Matthews (Midland, Mich. / Herbert Henry Dow) came up with the victory in the No. 1 match by the score of 8-6.
Trine once again picked up the No. 1 match during the singles portion of the competition as Spirrison came up with a 6-0, 1-6, 10-5 victory. It would be the team's final win of the day as they fell 5-2.
The Thunder fall to 6-5 following the loss. They will take the courts again on Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m. The dual will signify the team's start of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) play as they take on St. Mary's College
