COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Trine University men's ACHA D2 hockey team finished off their season on a high note coming away with their 30th win of the season by defeating Northern Arizona University by the score of 7-4 this evening.
Northern Arizona came out to the early lead with a goal just two minutes into the contest. The Thunder responded with a goal of their own with seven minutes left in the period. Freshman Brandon Bornkamp (Fort Wayne, Ind.) scored the goal one of three he would finish the game with. The teams entered the first intermission tied at one goal apiece.
The Thunder went on an offensive tear in the second period coming away with four goals to Northern Arizona's one. The teams would trade goals in the final period and the game would end with Trine on top 7-4.
Bornkamp finished the game with a team high three goals and one assist for four points. Freshman Brendon Werstine (Lakewood, Calif.) came in second on the team with three points including two goals and one assist. Freshmen Adam Schaffer (Defiance, Ohio) and Hunter Lagrone (Dallas, Texas) both came away with two assists.
With the win, the Thunder end their inaugural season with a 30-2-2 record.
